Hello! I'm Courtney

I’m a second-generation Mexican-American from Atlanta whose life has always revolved around creativity. I grew up making all kinds of arts and crafts with my mom, and that hands-on approach shaped how I see art today — as something constantly evolving and deeply personal.

About Me

For a long time, I actually felt insecure about drawing. I didn’t take my first art class until my senior year of high school. But after many twists and turns in college, I found my way back to art as a Studio Art major — eager to explore every medium. Art challenged me, excited me, and I knew I wanted it to be part of my everyday life.

By day, I’m a high school Drawing & Painting teacher, and I created Masa Press as my personal creative outlet. The name Masa Press is a playful nod to two things: a traditional tortilla press used to flatten masa (maize dough), and the printing process I use to make stickers and prints. Both reflect my love for working with my hands — something that’s always been part of who I am. I grew up making tortillas with my mom, and now I pour that same care and creativity into every design I press by hand.

Skillset

I earned my BA in Studio Art from Georgia State University, where I also worked as a graphic designer for the Alumni Association and took on freelance illustration projects. A few years later, I returned to GSU to complete my Master’s in Art Education while teaching high school Graphic Design. For the past three years, I’ve been teaching Drawing & Painting, which has deepened my love for illustration and helped me grow both as an artist and educator.
